Cutting consumptions of fossil fuels would not only clean the air and help meet climate change goals but also cut energy costs by lowering demand, improve American Energy independence and address the nation's trade imbalance. Special Forces Award AeroVironment Contract For Puma Small UAS
7/8/2008

Puma AE: "All Environment" Mini-UAV
7/6/2008
The hand-launched Puma AE's most significant innovation is that it can land on both land and water, surviving near-vertical "deep stall" final approaches. In addition to the obvious special forces scenarios like river infiltrations, the ability to land on water and in very tight areas on land means that Puma can also be used from boats and ships, without vessel modifications for landing systems or vehicle storage.

Up in the Sky, An Unblinking Eye
6/4/2008
The hundreds of drones cruising over Iraq and Afghanistan have changed war forever. The UAV is the "smart bomb" of the Iraq War, the latest turn in the unending offense-defense spiral that characterizes the history of warfare. Army units searching and fighting house-to-house are using hundreds of drones, some of them as small as a model airplane (the Raven), to track enemy movements.

Raven: The Tiniest Drone
6/4/2008
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have changed the face of war.  The RQ-11 Raven is the lightest and smallest of the lot-weighing 4.2 pounds and boasting a wingspan of 4.5 feet. The Raven has become a popular way of tracking insurgents planting IEDs in Iraq.

The Raven Revolution
5/30/2008
The U.S. Army's Raven UAV (RQ-11A) flew 150,000 hours of combat missions last year (mainly in Iraq and Afghanistan), and nearly 300,000 hours are expected this year. So far, over 9,000 Ravens have been delivered or are on order. So successful has the Raven been, that the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Marine Corps have adopted it (in place of similar UAVs they had been using).
